Josephine Miller Olson

Word has been received of the death of Josephine Miller Olson, 83, of Williamsburg, Va. on December 17, 2002.  She is survived by one son, Richard Olson of Westboro, Mass. and two daughters, Cynthia Olson of Manchester, N.H. and Roberta Santoro of Gainesville, Va. and four grandchildren.  Josephine is also survived by one sister, Florence (Miller) Rees of Greenville; one brother, Louis V. Miller of Bloomington, Ind. and several cousins, as well as nieces and nephews.
Josephine was born in Du Quoin on October 12, 1919 to Emil E. and Emilia (Wepiewski) Miller.  She graduated from Du Quoin High School and served in WW II.  She first worked as a clerk in the Selective Service office in Pinckneyville.  Her pesonal sense of civic duty prompted her to volunteer with the Womens Army Corps (WACS) for two years.  She was promoted to the rank of Technical Sergeant and was awarded the first Fort Dix, N.J. army commendation ribbon for meritorious service.  She and Garrett. S. Olson were married in 1946.  For many years they owned Olson Realty in Summit, New Jersey.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her elder brother, Henry C. Miller; an infant brother, Frank Miller and her husband, who served in both WW II and the Korean War.  As veterans, both Josephine and Gary were buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
